Open Access Week at DataCite Partner Universities

Open Access Week 2025: University of Tartu Library

From October 20th to 26th, the global Open Access Week highlights the importance of using and sharing open scientific knowledge. Partner of DataCite Estonia Consortium  invite everyone to participate in various trainings and seminars, both online and on-site.

On October 21st, the Estonian Doctoral School will host an online training session titled “How to Publish Open Access? A Practical Guide for Doctoral Students.” Registration for the event is open until October 20th.

This year’s theme, “Who Owns the Knowledge?” continues the discussions of previous years by emphasizing the prioritization of community interests and values over commercial goals. Positive changes are already visible: Diamond Open Access and “Subscribe to Open” publishing models are expanding; researchers are regaining control over their journals, and research institutions are moving away from commercial evaluation systems. There is also a growing recognition that research data does not always belong solely to the researcher, but also to those who participate in studies and contribute to the creation of knowledge.
